PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
